Larry Scott talks TV deal and women’s hoops
Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott, in announcing the league’s new mega-TV deal with Fox and ESPN worth a reported $3 billion, talked about how the new contract will benefit women’s basketball.
For starters, there will be a Pac-12 network. Scott indicated that most women’s basketball games will be televised.
This is what Scott had to say about women’s basketball on Wednesday’s conference call.
“Women’s basketball is a real source of pride in the Pac-12,” Scott said. “Women’s basketball is going to see unprecedented exposure.”
Scott reiterated his passion for women’s sports, having come to the Pac-10 from the Women’s Tennis Association two years ago.
“I’m passionate about women’s sports, there are people on my team who are passionate about women’s sports,” Scott said. “We believe in the WNBA and we believe that we can be the next frontier. Our teams have a dedicated fan base.
“It’s not going to happen overnight. We it will start with greater exposure. With a continued commitment from our schools…today’s announcement is a turning point for women’s hoops and women’s sports in general. We believe it’s the next frontier.”
